hello! my name is cherie and i’m just another girl who loves to make things, take pictures of them and then blog about it. i live in san francisco, california with my partner and 2 year old daughter and i am convinced it’s the best city in the world.
i had a sudden desire to learn how to sew in my 20s and my mom taught me how to use a sewing machine. now it’s become one of the only things i want to do. EVER. i sew things for babies, kids, the home, women’s clothing and accessories. I also do simple crafts, like to bake, take pictures, knit every once in awhile and try all sorts of new things, like carving my own stamps or dyeing fabric. join me on my crafting and sewing adventures! it’s always more fun when others join in.
about the name, “you & mie”:
mie is my middle name. it is japanese and has been a part of my identity for a long time. as a kid, I hated it because no one could pronounce it correctly. as an adult, i’ve embraced it because it’s unique and is a symbol of my heritage. most people pronounce it as “me,” which is why i named my shop “you & mie.” it’s actually pronounced “mee-eh”
thank you so much for visiting my blog! please take a moment to visit my facebook page as well!
Did you have a pattern for the little purple dress that you dyed after sewing it? It is
so darling, and your little girl is very precious in that outfit!!!!!
Hello Cherie! Congrats on becoming Freshly Pressed! This blog is adorable. I love all the beautiful beautiful clothes that you have made and your little girl is sooo sweet! I’m following – hopefully I will dust off my sewing machine soon
Have a lovely week!
Lovely. Great to have stumbled accross your blog.
What a pleasure to find your blog tonight. In a crazy moment, I finally acted on my sewing urges and got a machine last week. I’m both petrified and thrilled to begin — thanks for the seeds of inspiration on your blog!
Love your blog! It feels so cozy and real. Your daughter is beyond adorable and reminds me of my little girl, who is half an Anglophone me, and half Korean. Gorgeous. Thank you for sharing your love of sewing and creativity. Living in Seoul, the clothes for children are trendy and cheap, but that’s just it..cheap. They quality is lacking and honestly, so is personality. I don’t want my daughter to look like everyone else on the playground. I’d love to read a blog post on recycled fabrics and/or how you use your scrap fabric! ^^
With so much “mixed” marriages of interracial relationships (who produce the most beautiful babies!), it’s so important for everyone to keep their heritage, as not to lose our culture! I love your middle name, Mie! My husband and I (being from different cultural backgrounds) have agreed to keep our heritage with giving a “foreign” middle name tied to our culture to any future kids …
I’m so happy I found your blog! You almost make me want to learn to sew
Looking forward to seeing more of your creations in the future!
COOL!
I believe sewing is the best, than always buy it in store with the same style, BTW nice to read this blog
You are so creative, and your little angel is simply precious.
=)
Please do you have the pattern of Mei dress from My Neighbour Totoro because I would love to make it for my two year old granddaughter who absolutely adores Totoro and thinks she is Mei.
Hi! I don’t have a pattern for it, but I could definitely tell you how I made it. It was a combination of the Every Little Thing tunic from Shwin & Shwin and a circle skirt. Let’s email!
Hi Cherie, I’ve been following your blog since the FP times. A few months have flown by so quickly! I’m always excited to see your posts because they are so creative and simply lovely! Feel free to do with it what you want, it’s just to let you know I think you’re doing some seriously lovely stuff and to thank you for sharing!

i love your totoro costume for your little kid. oh i wish i can buy it from you for my son. he just turned one this year and it’s a perfect halloween costume for him since we decorated his room full of totoro’s stuff animals
Your blog is just so lovely and inspiring.
Do you have a pattern (or advice) on how to make your lamb costume? It’s ridiculously adorable. My 3 year old just informed me that she’s going to be Little Bo Peep for halloween and our twin babies will be her little sheep. Time to dust off the sewing machine!
Hi Jennifer! I’m sorry I didn’t see this earlier! Hmm . . . so advice on the lamb costume? I think I cut 2 rectangles (one for the front and one for the back). Then cut the two bottom corners off for the leg holes. With right sides together, sew the sides together from the top of the leg hole to where you want the armhole to start. Fold the leg holes and arm holes under and sew down to conceal the raw edge. Fold the top edge down and sew to create a casing for the ribbon. Add snaps along the crotch and you’re done!! A good secret I learned for attaching snaps is cutting the snap strip off an old onesie and just sewing the whole strip onto the new project. I know this must sound totally confusing, but I hope it kinda helps. I’ll try sending you a little sketch to see if that helps. Good luck!
