KCWC S12: Day 5 – Progress

After skipping TWO nights of working on my Jump Rope Dress, I was determined to do some serious catching up today.  And I made some good progress!

Since last time, I top stitched the collar, added the sleeves and tabs, made the skirt pockets, belt loops and attached the skirt to the bodice.

I’m almost done!!  All I have left is the sash, attaching the buttons, making buttonholes and hemming the bottom.  I’m hoping to finish it up tomorrow and then I’ve got ooooone mooooooore project I’m going to try and slide in.  Although, it’s a slightly more complicated one that I’m starting from scratch, so we’ll have to see if I can finish it before KCWC winds down.

How are your projects coming along?  You burning out or pumped for the weekend?

This week

I had things I wanted to blog about this week, but I’ve been so busy sewing!  I’m psyched that I finished my Sportswear outfit for the Project Run & Play Sewalong!  Here’s a sneak peek.

I can’t wait to see my little monkey wearing it!  I’ll try show you the rest later this week.  I have to say upfront though, I totally FAILED at all of my goals.  Oops.

Last night, I got to meet up with Kristin from skirtastop who was in town for work.  She’s even more awesome in person than she seemed online (if that’s possible) and now I can say I’ve met my first bloggy friend in person!  She’s kind of been my sewing and blogging mentor, so it was really fun to talk about EVERYTHING.  Too bad we forgot to take a picture together!

Our first stop?  Britex.

4 floors of fabric, ribbons, buttons and every other sewing supply you can think of.  And not just a little of everything, A LOT of everything.  It was a bit overwhelming but I was able to find some fabric that I’m going to use next week for KCWC.  The fabric there is pricey, but I feel like a whole new world was just opened for me.  My bank account better watch out!

Last weekend was the start of the Cherry Blossom Festival.  The weather was great and the blossoms and blossomed!  It really feels like spring is here (which means summer is just around the corner!!).

Like my Instagram pics? 🙂

Hope you’re having a great week too!

Sneak Peek: Fabric Books

I’ve been so absent from blogland this week 😦  But I’m still here and as busy as ever!  I wanted to show you a couple of things I’ve been working on.

I have two custom projects lined up for my friend Amy (yes, I’m taking custom orders – just email me!) and the first is a fabric photo book for her son, Julian.  She saw the one I made for Yuki and wanted one for Julian, especially he doesn’t get to see his family all that often.  I’m not done with it yet, but it’s coming together pretty nicely so far.  Here’s a few pics of the project in progress . . .

Hopefully I can finish this up by this weekend and start on the other project for Amy.  I’ll share about that one later.

And do you remember this sneak peek from FOREVER ago??  Well I was super psyched about this project back in SEPTEMBER and worked on it furiously for a few days and then it went into my “pending pile” to die 😦  But I’ve dug it out from the pile and I’m determined to give it new life!

That’s right, another fabric book, but this one is about colors!  And if all goes well, this will be available for purchase in the etsy shop!  It’s about half done now, but my goal is to finish them by early next week before the Thanksgiving madness.  Do you think I can I do it??

Sneak Peek: New Sewing Machine

Sorry to keep you in suspense!  I thought I’d be able to post before the weekend, but I’ve been buried in work and projects and then went out of town for the weekend.  I don’t have time to tell you all about it now, but here’s a peek at what was inside ONE of the boxes.

I’m excited and proud to introduce (one of the) newest additions to my work space, MY NEW SEWING MACHINE, my first sewing machine EVER!  It’s a Brother PC-420 and it is incredible.  I’ll give you a full review once I’ve spent more time on it, but I just wanted to show you one of the reasons I’ve been so busy – I can’t get off the machine!  I want to call in sick from work and sew, sew, sew!  Stay up all night and sew, sew, sew!  This thing has more settings and feet and stitches than I’ll ever need, but it’s nice to know they are there!  Now I have to read the 200 page manual and figure out how to use everything.  And maybe give her a name?? 🙂

Now, I don’t think that new and fancy machines are necessary for good quality sewing.  The ones I’ve borrowed in the past were excellent machines and I was perfectly happy with them (and extremely grateful that I was able to use them).  But it feels good to finally have my own machine.  And to have something BRAND new.  I feel like I have to take good care of it.  And make amazing things with it.  And I WANT to make amazing things with it.  And it was all possible because of some very generous and loving friends and family members.  They pulled together to give me the money for the machine.  Their support and belief in me as I pursue my passion is priceless.  And now they’ll be a part of everything that I sew!  And any successes I have, will be thanks to them.  And through all the struggles I have, I know they’ll be right there with me.  And now I’m getting ridiculously cheesy, so I need to stop.

I LOVE MY NEW MACHINE.  Now I just need more time to play on it!!
